Butterflies and moths are fragile, sensitive indicators of the health of our environment. Each species has a preferred food plant on which it will lay eggs. The peacock butterfly is one of our most easily recognised species and although a familiar visitor to garden buddleias, it chooses to lay its eggs on stinging nettles.
